You can make a direct payment to our bank account at any time. This can be useful if you want to make an additional payment, clear an outstanding balance, or make a payment without logging in to your customer portal.

Important: always include your agreement number or vehicle registration as your payment reference. Without a clear reference, your payment may not be allocated to your account correctly.

Bank transfers can take time to show on your account depending on your bank and when the payment is sent. If you have made a payment and it is not showing straight away, please allow time for it to be received and allocated.

If your payment is urgent, or if it relates to a missed or upcoming payment, please contact us after sending the transfer so our team can check your account.

Voluntary termination: your right to end your HP agreement

If you are facing long-term financial difficulty, you may have a legal right to end your hire purchase agreement early through voluntary termination. This right is set out in the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and applies to all regulated HP agreements in the UK, including your agreement with AutoMoney Trust.

Understanding how voluntary termination works and when you are eligible is important before you decide whether it is the right option for you.

Struggling with payments? We're here to help

If you are finding it difficult to keep up with your AutoMoney Trust payments, the most important thing you can do is contact us as soon as possible. The sooner we know about your situation, the more options we have to help you find a way forward.

We will never expect you to pay more than you can genuinely afford. Our team will take the time to listen, understand your circumstances, and talk through the support options that may be available.

Support options available

Depending on your individual situation, support we may be able to offer includes:

Car Outside House

Payment Arrangement:

An affordable repayment plan that reflects what you can genuinely manage each month, paid over several months in addition to your regular contractual monthly instalment.

Car Steering Dashboard

Payment Break:

A temporary pause on your payments (up to 2 months within a 12-month period) if your difficulty is short term. Each case is agreed individually, and your agreement must be up to date. Any paused payments are added to the end of your agreement.

Blue Car Headlights

Breathing Space:

If you are in serious financial difficulty, you may be entitled to a statutory Breathing Space period of up to 60 days under the Debt Respite Scheme, during which collections activity and enforcement are paused.

Every case is different and we assess each one on its own merits. We will never offer a solution that is not affordable and sustainable for you.

Watch out for scams

We are aware of scams in which individuals are approached by organisations posing as representatives of financial services companies and offered loans in return for an upfront fee.

AutoMoney Trust does not charge upfront fees and would never approach you directly in this way. If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent AutoMoney Trust and asking for an upfront payment, do not pay.

If you think you have been targeted by a scam, contact your bank immediately to report it, and report the incident to Action Fraud.

Discretionary commission payments

You may have questions about the commission that was paid when your hire purchase agreement was set up.

In 2021, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) banned discretionary commission arrangements in motor finance. The FCA is now reviewing historical motor finance commission arrangements across a number of firms, and has put in place special procedures for handling complaints where a discretionary commission arrangement existed between a lender and a broker.

You can find full information about the review and how to raise a complaint on the FCA car finance complaints page.

Your agreement with us is not affected by any of this, as AutoMoney Trust has never entered into discretionary commission arrangements with anyone referring business to us.

How to make a complaint

AutoMoney Trust is committed to treating every customer fairly. If you are unhappy with any aspect of your agreement or the service you have received, we want to know about it so we can put things right.

Our complaints process is straightforward and we aim to resolve all complaints promptly. Full details of how to raise a complaint, what to expect, and your rights if you remain dissatisfied are set out in our complaints policy.

FAQs

Can I change my payment date?

What to know before changing your payment date

Yes, AutoMoney Trust customers can request a change to their monthly payment date, although restrictions apply to how many times this can be done during the term of your agreement. Moving the date may affect the total amount you repay, because additional interest can accrue between the original and new payment dates. To discuss your options, speak to AutoMoney Trust before the next payment is due. If you are also worried about affordability rather than timing, it is worth reviewing the support available for existing customers and checking how repayments may be affected using the finance calculator.

How do late or missed payments affect my credit file?

What happens when a payment is late or missed

Late or missed AutoMoney Trust car finance payments may be reported to the main UK credit reference agencies and can remain on your credit file for up to six years. This may lower your credit score and make it harder to borrow in the future, with lenders potentially offering higher rates or declining applications. The impact depends on how late the payment is and whether arrears continue. If you are struggling, it is better to contact us early than to miss a payment, as we may be able to help. For more detail on how lenders review applications, see our guide to credit checks for car finance.

Can I end my car finance through voluntary termination?

What voluntary termination could mean for your agreement

Yes, under section 99 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, you have a legal right to voluntarily terminate your hire purchase agreement once you have paid at least 50% of the total amount payable. If you have paid less, you can still apply, but you would need to cover the difference. You must return the vehicle in reasonable condition and clear any arrears. Voluntary termination may still appear on your credit file. If you are unsure whether it is right for you, speak to our team before proceeding, as other options may be available.

What should I do if I’m worried about making my next payment?

What to do before your payment is due

If you think you may struggle to make your next car finance payment, contact AutoMoney Trust as soon as possible, ideally before the payment is due. Reaching out early gives our team time to discuss your situation and may open up support options such as a short-term payment arrangement or signposting to free debt advice services. Missed payments can affect your credit file and lead to further fees and default interest, so acting quickly helps protect your agreement. We treat every conversation in confidence and will work with you to find a sustainable way forward.
